January Wrap Up - Part 1

Before we get too far into February,  I need to wrap up a few things from last month.

This calendar hangs behind the door in my closet and it's where I
record my health stats (weight, blood sugars, etc.)  and days I've
exercised.  The highlighted days are  the ones when I achieved
my goal of exercising 50 minutes 5 days a week.  So, I didn't do as
well as I would have liked - but I was sick for a week and a half
and it's hard to exercise when you can barely breathe.
I did lose 2 lbs. -  so that was good.

* Goal #16 - Exercise 50 min. a day 5 days a week

I bought some pretty cream colored yarn and started my scarf.
Nothing fancy.  I only know how to do the knit stitch.

* Goal # 21 - Knit a scarf

These two pictures are of a  White Breasted Nuthatch.

And this is a fat little Black- Capped Chickadee.

*Goal #19 - Learn to identify birds at my feeder.

These are the books I read.
"Made to Crave" - Lysa Terkeurst
A good book to start the new year.  I recommend it.  It's about
our relationship with food and our desire to be healthy.  We need
spiritual empowerment to make that happen.  I have had a lifelong
battle with my weight and have to stay focused on my food choices
or I can get off track so easily.  This book is a reminder that
an unhealthy relationship with food is a spiritual as well
as a physical issue.
"The Magician's Nephew" - C.S. Lewis
I went to see the latest Chronicles of Narnia movie
with Kenzie a month or so ago and realized that
I had never read the book on which the movie
was based.. We have all of them in our home library,
so I'm reading the  series and loving it.  This is the first
book and sets the stage for everything that follows in the
land of Narnia.
" The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" - C. S. Lewis
This is the only book I had previously read from the
series, but enjoyed it again.  C. S. Lewis was brilliant and
so creative.  And I love the Christian symbolism.
"Sword and Scalpel" - Lorry Lutz
Last year, I started a habit of reading a biography
each morning while I ate breakfast.  Just a chapter
or two each day.  I love reading about inspiring people.
It makes me want to be better.  My sister and brother-in-law
loaned me this book to read about a christian missionary
who served in war torn Africa as a surgeon.  It is an
amazing story of faith and devotion.
They know the family personally, which makes it
even more interesting.  Thanks Sherri and Scott.
A very good read!
"Saving Fish from Drowning" - Amy Tan
This was a book I picked up at the Dollar Store.  Every
now and then you can find something good on their
book aisle.  I liked this story about twelve American
tourists on an art expedition in the Himalayan foothills
of China and into the jungles of Burma.  It gets really
interesting when eleven of them disappear from
the tour leader and find themselves living with a tribe
hiding in the jungle.  I liked reading about a part of
the world that I know little about. Definitely worth
a dollar.

*Goal #9 - Read 50 books
