Fifty Things I've Learned in Fifty Years

Today I turn 50 and here's a few things I think I've learned in 
half a century.......

1 - Being raised in a home with a mother and father is a great blessing.
2 - Learning something new makes each day interesting.
3-  Lilacs smell divine.
4-  Babies make me happy.
5-  I like to walk on clean floors with bare feet.
6 - The best days start with scripture reading and prayer.
7 - Girls are harder to raise than boys.
8-  Public speaking isn't so scary.
9-  Choose friends wisely and hang out with people who make you
      want to be better just by being with them.
10- Fresh eggs taste better than store bought.
11- Choosing your eternal companion is the most important decision
       you'll ever make.
12 - A long walk in the woods clears my brain.
13-  I don't need as many things as I think I do.
14 - Sunbeam teacher is the choicest calling in the church.
15-  Family vacations are exhausting.
16- Learning to play an instrument is easier when you are young.
17- Body parts start to break down after forty.
18- It is best not to have expectations for anyone but yourself.
19- Family traditions are the glue that hold families together.
20- Too many warm Krispy Kreme doughnuts make you sick.
21- Golden retrievers are the dog for me.
22- Chocolate can improve my outlook considerably.
23- I like to read books that make me think and then discuss them with people
       smarter than myself.
24- The first snow of the season is exciting no matter how old you are.
25- A garden tomato, sliced on white bread with mayonnaise and lots of 
       salt and pepper makes a fine meal.
26- The sound of waves beating on the shore is a great stress reliever.
27- Stargazing on a clear night makes me feel very small.
28- Being a mother is the greatest job on earth.
29 - Each day is a gift to be cherished.
30- Good health is a blessing not to be taken for granted.
31-  Making a big pot of soup is therapeutic.
32-  Judging others is wrong and I do it too often.
33-  I am happy when I am doing something for someone else.
34-  Three cats are too many.
35- Being in a hurry isn't healthy.
36- Being in the celestial room in the temple with people you love is true joy.
37- Tent camping is hard on the middle age back.
38- A handwritten letter is still one of the  nicest things you can receive.
39- Being in the kitchen with friends, creating a great meal is bliss.
40- Directing girls camp three years in a row is adequate.
41- It's the little things that count.
42- The jobs you put off are never as bad as you think they're going to be.
43- Stepping out of your comfort zone is scary, but always worth it.
44- A good travel experience is exhilarating.
45- No matter how old you are, you still need your mother.
46- Most tv isn't worth my time.
47- A good marriage takes a lot of work.
48- Waking up to the sound of birds singing is a beautiful way to greet the day.
49- My most important relationship is the one I have with my Savior.
50- Age is just a number.

  3. Wow! I hope my list is as wise as yours next year, my wonderful and wise and friend. I just love the way you look at life, Melissa. It's a big learning experience for all of us, isn't it? I am so happy that you had a great birthday and 50 wonderful years to learn a lot. I feel so blessed to be counted as one of your friends. I always have. Love you!
